Antique 19th Century French pewter shaving dish advertising Le Melanogene Dicquemare de Rouen hair and beard dye

Antique French barber shop pewter shaving bowl, circa 1800s.

This handsome barber's shop shaving bowl advertises a brand of beard and hair dye and is embossed with the wording : "LE MELANOGENE DICQUEMARE DE ROUEN - Teint les Cheveux et la Barbe".

The shaving bowl would have been used by a barber for shaving as well as dying beard hair. Shaped to fit beneath the chin to keep any dye from splashing the gentleman's clothing

The bowl measures 35cm (14 inch) in length x 29cm (11 1/2 inch) wide, 5cm (2 inch) deep

Weight 2.3 kilos, hence the postage cost!
