A really functional piece of antique stoneware, these were originally used to hold meat paste
You will receive one pot, at time of listing twelve are available, all in similar antique hand made condition
Finished in a cream/off white glaze with an indent below the lip where the lid would have been tied on
These antique pots make lovely rustic addition to your home and I use them as soap dishes with a small hotel size round soap in them and they look great!
They may also be used as a trinket dish or candle holder... so many ideas!
Measure (they differ as all hand made) 8.5-10.5cms diameter, 3-4cms high
These jars would have originally contained meat paste, and were not designed to have a lid. They were sealed with greaseproof paper that was tied round the top, where the groove is.
These have been dug from Victorian landfill which means that there are some fabulous blemishes on the glazes and various chips and cracks.
The photos are representative only as I have a revolving stock of these, please ask if you would like photos of the specific ones I can send you prior to dispatch.
So many of these went to landfill as from around 1880 it became uneconomical to reuse old materials. Therefore councils started paying to have rubbish dumped in landfill. This short window continued until around 1914 when manufacturing became much more industrialised.
