French Antique Carrier Bag Handle / Parcel Carrying Tool

This charming French antique carrier bag handle was provided by stores to customers for a more comfortable grip on string that had been placed around parcels they were collecting. They were also used for shopping bags, both used in the early 1900’s.

These parcel carriers would have been given to reuse time and again as the string and paper bag handles would have cut into their hands. The handles of the paper shopping or the string from the parcels would have hooked over the metal ends of these handles and the customer would then be able to carry them in much more comfort.
