Rototherm 1930s Vintage Thermometer. Scientific Probe Brewing Thermometer. Scientific Instrument. Pocket Scientific Thermometer

This is a beautifully elegant scientific or laboratory probe thermometer manufactured by The British Rototherm Co.Ltd of London.

Dating to around the early 1930s, it is steel with a convex glass lens & has a white dial reading degrees Fahrenheit from zero to two hundred.

The Bakelite case is removable but the probe can be used in situ via 2 liquid access holes near the tip.

It also has a neat pocket clip

It works using a coiled bimetallic strip developed by Rototherm, which expands & contracts with temperature fluctuations, making it both accurate & robust

Some scrapes to the bakelite and metal tarnishing. 93mm long. 24mm diameter face.

Please have a good look at the photos.

Rototherm date back to the 1840s when Sydney Smith Dennis of Nottingham worked with George Stephenson of "Rocket" steam engine fame to develop the first steam pressure gauge!

They invented the first bi-metallic thermometer in 1934 & soon became a leading manufacturer due to their quality, reliability & innovation. They still make all kinds of scientific instruments at a new factory in South Wales!
